I own the 2-wheel variety of this cleaner.I bought it last year when it was on sale for three hundred and eighty-five dollars and so far I've used it about 6 times this season. It replaced a Dolphin Diagnostic robot that crapped out at the start of the 3rd season of use (actually, it had to be coaxed to start up during the 2nd season, but who's counting). But it's not a perfect replacement for the electrically driven pool robots, some of which cost about a thousand dollars.

Of all the attachments that come with the Poolvergnuegen, only the rubber adapter that fits on the skimmer/suction end of the hose is able to make a firm connection with the "skimmer" suction port. The other two either don't fit (the screw-in cleaner" adapter port won't work because my separate cleaner port doesn't have screw threads) or fit loosely (the water "bleed" attachment doesn't fit snugly enough to be useful). So the rubber adapted is what I use to connect the cleaner to the pool pump's vacuum power.

In operation, the unit tends to tilt up as it moves and drags the hose around the pool, probably causing some of the water vacuum under the unit to be lost.My pool (15'x30') goes from 3' feet deep at one end to 5' deep at the other end, with both sections being relatively flat. That means there is a center portion of the floor of the pool that drops from 3' to 5', causing a distinct upward grade. The sloping grade tends to "trap" the cleaner at the deep end of the pool for approximately 80% of its cleaning time, leaving the shallow end of the pool somewhat less clean than the deep end.

The cleaner's hose comes in 3' sections (ten of them) that have to be connected to make a single long 30' foot hose.As the skimmer port is midway along the long side of the pool, this length is more than sufficient to reach all corners of the pool. However, the connecting and unconnecting of the hose sections before and after each use is a pain.

I believe the pool gets almost as clean as it did when the motorized pool robot did the job. It's certainly easier than standing at the side of the pool with the pool pole and its flat vacuum head, slowly pushing the vacuum head up and down and across the pool.

Given my choice, I would rather have the motorized robot, with its self-contained filter bag, than this suction-side cleaner. It did a more even job and it kept the vacuumed material from entering the pool filter. However, the motorized robot cost twice as much as this suction-side cleaner, and that's no small consideration, given that the motorized robots seem to be relatively fragile.I'm certainly not going to pay a thousand dollars every two years for a motorized robot.

So, I give it 3 stars. It's not perfect but it's cheaper than a robot and allows me to sit down while it does its job.
